Why Iolo Morganwg should be remembered in London

Iolo Morganwg was one of the most remarkable Welshmen of his age ... an antiquarian, poet and myth-maker ... a political radical, a Romantic and one of the founders of the Unitarian movement in Wales.

Today, he is being increasingly recognised as a figure of European standing and one of his great achievements took place on a hill that is today part of an urban village at the heart of modern London.

At Primrose Hill in 1792 he convened the first meeting of the Gorsedd of Bards of the Island of Britain ... an institution that survives today. That is why a campaign is underway to have Iolo and his contribution commemorated at Primrose Hill.

The memorial was unveiled on 20th June 2009
